Since its release in early 2015, the Mercedes-AMG GT has multiplied its versions and is now at the head of a real family to more turbulent children than each other. The GT coupes and the GT S have in fact added the GT C and the GT R. All are equipped with the same V8 4.0 biturbo M178 associated with a box Speedshift DCT with double clutch and seven reports in position transaxle but with levels of power and torque sent to only rear wheels ranging from 476 to 585 hp and from 630 to 700 Nm.But for the Roadster version, the object of our test today, only the GT and GT C versions are, at least for the moment, available, and it is the latter of which we took the wheel. With 557 hp at 6,750 rpm and 680 Nm of 1,900 at 5,500 rpm, it performs 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 s and can reach 316 km / h, making it today the most successful convertible from the manufacturer to the star. In addition, it concedes in the end only a small kilometer / hour maximum speed at the coupe with the same engine thanks to an overweight measured of fifty pounds, reaching a total of still 1,735 kg.
To faithfully transmit and control all this cavalry, the GT C comes standard with electronic locking, adaptive dampers, rear steering wheels, switchable exhaust and 390x36mm discs. the front and 360x26 at the back. And if by chance you estimate this braking power a fair bit, you can opt for optional ceramic discs in 402x39 front and 360x32 in the back against 8 350 € additional.
Aesthetically, since the presentation of the Roadster, the entire range - Coupé included - receives the new grille Panamericana vertical slats but otherwise keeps the same recipe that is proven on GT front engine propulsion for decades: a very long hood, minimized overhangs and a passenger compartment on the rear axle combine to produce a typical spectacular silhouette, and Mercedes-AMG has the good taste to add a fluid line and without giving in to the flashy outrageous, as long as we stay away from certain colors like the yellow Solarbeam or selenite gray Magno Designo our test model Edition 50 very "footballer". The cut of the roof does not disturb the design, whether with the triple-layer hood in place or folded, operation takes 11 seconds and can be done up to 50 km / h.
The interior remains the same as that of the Coupé with this massive central console lined with two rows of buttons recalling the implementation of the cylinders of a V8 and surmounted by a dashboard shaped aircraft wing with in the role of the reactors six air vents. We can not say that there is room to spare, especially flipped, but we slip in as in a box and the driving position is excellent, as the finish. The trunk volume becomes almost symbolic, with only 165 liters available.
